Spring Snowmobiling

Last Saturday, my Dad went up to our cabin to check on things and make sure nothing had frozen, the heat was still on, the immense piles of snow hadn't crushed anything, etc.  My Mom was sick, so she stayed home, and Mike was busy working on a project for work, so Ian and I decided to ride up with him for the day and keep him company.

Vroom, Vroom!!
It was absolutely beautiful up there!!  Once we got up out of the valley, the sun was shining brilliantly and with all of our snow gear on, it was actually even kind of warm!
I hadn't had a "Daddy/Daughter Day", where it was just the two of us,  in quite some time, and I thoroughly enjoyed that time with my Dad.  He is such a great guy and I love these special times we get to spend together.  And Ian absolutely loves his Papa, so he had a great day too!!

The snow was over Ian's head.

From about October to May, the only way to get up to our cabin is by snowmobile.  My parents still go up quite often, but since I had surgery this winter and couldn't ride a snowmobile, this was mine and Ian's first trip up since last summer.  Ian seemed to remember the snowmobiles from last winter, and he certainly remembered the cabin, so he was really excited!  He loved riding around with Papa, and only yelled at him once! (My Dad took an uncharted "short cut" through some trees at one point and said he didn't think Ian liked that very much because he started yelling at him.  From then on, they stuck to the trails=)

I was surprised at how much snow there still is, and was thinking it is going to be awhile before we see the hot tub again!

The hot tub is under there...somewhere!

We had a great day with Papa and can't wait to do it again!  However, hopefully next time we won't need our snow gear and can ride the four wheelers instead=)

Little Man's First Hike

Last Sunday was one of those absolutely gorgeous, warm, sunny, Fall days that just screams, "go outside and enjoy me because the snow will be here before you know it!!!"

We heard the call and couldn't let such a beautiful day go to waste.  So we put on our hiking shoes, grabbed some water and snacks and headed for our beautiful mountains.  We decided on American Fork canyon and hiked at Cascade Springs.  This is what our drive up looked like.

The colors were breathtaking, and the temperature was just right!!  I love Sunday drives in the canyons and this one ranked right up there among my favorites!  We even rolled our windows down to enjoy the warm, Fall mountain air.

But this was not only a beautiful day, it was a monumental day because it was our little man's very first hike!
We had the pack all ready in case he got tired, but he walked most of it on his own.

He was so curious about everything, and stopped several times to check everything out.

I love this last picture because of his hands=)
Look closer.

I stopped to show him something on the side of the trail and when I attempted to switch his hand from one of mine to the other, he grabbed on with both of his own hands and wouldn't let go.  I LOVE it that this tough and independent boy of mine still needs his Mommy once in awhile=)

Here is a fish we saw. (If you look closely, it is right in the middle of the picture)

Ian stopped and "read" every sign post we passed=)

We had such a fun day, and eventually even our boundless ball of energy got tuckered out and consented to be carried.

Happy Fall Everybody!!!
